No tech winter for SEA’s cybersecurity, but there’s a long road ahead
Cybersecurity is on the rise in Southeast Asia, with more multinational firms seeking to enter and expand in the region. Governments, regulators, institutions, and companies are particularly interested in safeguarding their tech systems.
The Covid-19 pandemic seems to have been the catalyst for change in the region as digitalization and remote working became essential for many organizations. Naturally, this meant that tighter cybersecurity measures were needed, especially given the jump in cloud usage.
It is heartening that more companies now see cybersecurity as a priority,, even more so when the sector matters enough that it remains strong in the face of the macroeconomic slowdown.
But despite these promising developments, cybersecurity in Southeast Asia still has a long way to go. That’s what Peerapong Jongvibool, a regional executive with cybersecurity firm Fortinet pointed out in the premium article I recently wrote. But hey, better late than never, right?
